June events include: Alexian Grove Antique Free Appraisal Day Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries will host a free antique appraisal event on Saturday, June 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Alexian Grove independent retirement living apartments, located at 100 Asbury Oak Lane in Lookout Valley. (Across from Cummings Cove Golf Community at the foot of Lookout Mountain.) The public is invited to bring one item per person for a free verbal appraisal professional appraisers. For more information call (423) 825-5557. “How to Protect Yourself from Home Repair Fraud” Workshop Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries will host a free workshop on how to protect yourself from home repair fraud on Tuesday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors, located at 250 East 10th Street in Chattanooga. Ballroom Dance Party Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries hosts a Ballroom Dance Party on the second Thursday of each month (June 9) at 7 p.m. in the Alexian Village Town Hall. Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries June Concert Series Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries will host a free concert series the month of June. Bluegrass Concert: Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries will host a free bluegrass concert on Saturday, June 11 at Alexian Inn, on the Alexian Village campus at 100 James Blvd. on Signal Mountain. The bluegrass concert will feature The Cumberland Band from 10 to 11 a.m. and The Mountain Cove Bluegrass Band from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The public in invited to enjoy refreshments and a petting zoo. The presentation will be given by a retired principal, Dane Ward, and his wife and retired teacher, Connie Ward, who recently hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. Computer Classes for Seniors Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries offers several levels of computer classes for seniors at their Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors location at 250 E. 10th Street in Chattanooga. Beginning level, “Generations on Line,” classes are free and are offered in both English and Spanish. Level two classes are $25 per 8-hour session and are offered the third and fourth Mondays and Tuesdays of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Seating is limited. Senior Leadership Academy Now Accepting Applications Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors’ Senior Leadership Academy is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 class. Coordinated through Senior Neighbors Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Senior Leadership Academy is designed to cultivate the skills and enthusiasm of adults over 50 years of age and help them develop into more effective community leaders. Free T’ai Ji Classes Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries offers free T’ai Ji classes to all ages of adults each Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors, located at 250 East 10th Street in Chattanooga. This fun and educational class taught by Chris Campbell of Time for T’ai Ji, will focus on muscle strengthening exercises for the legs along with coordination exercises that will help participants improve their posture and balance.
