2010 Walk4Hearing at One-Third of Goal, Seeking Non-Profit Alliances
The second annual Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Chattanooga Walk4Hearing is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, 2010, beginning at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga State Community College and adjoining Riverwalk. Currently at one-third of our $30,000 goal, the Walk4Hearing is seeking registered non-profit organizations or agencies that serve people with hearing loss to “share the wealth.” According to Nelda Twitchell, Chattanooga Walk4Hearing Alliance coordinator, “An Alliance is a non-profit organization which will join with HLAA to solicit money for the Walk. We focus especially on agencies which serve people with hearing loss and who use the monies they earn from the Walk4Hearing to assist in programs or services for this particular population.” The agency or organization which desires to be an Alliance will sign a simple agreement form with the local HLAA Walk4Hearing committee; then form a team or teams to walk on May 15th. The people who participate on the agency or organization’s team will ask friends, co-workers, relatives, neighbors, etc. to donate to the walk. Requests can be made in person, by letter writing or online for your team at www.walk4hearing.org. The money that an Alliance team earns will be split three ways. Fifty percent of all money earned goes directly to National HLAA as they provide local Walks with all printed materials, t-shirts, etc. necessary to conduct the Walk4Hearing. The local HLAA Chattanooga Chapter keeps 15 percent of the money for local expenses such as the Kickoff event and other expenses related to the walk. The Alliance will then keep 35 percent of all the money they have earned. For example, if your team earns $1,000 in donations, National HLAA will receive $500, Chattanooga Chapter HLAA will keep $150 and your agency will receive $350. This is a wonderful opportunity to earn money and help those with hearing loss at the same time. Alliances are now forming.
