ElderScholars Meeting Announced for April
The April, 2010, ElderScholars meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 13th at the Public House Restaurant on the south end of Warehouse Row. Parking is available on the street behind Warehouse Row and also in the enclosed parking lot slightly up the hill to the left of the Public House entrance. Each ElderScholar is responsible for his or her own meal. Our speaker is Dr. Eugene Bartoo of the Graduate Studies Division of UTC and presently Emeritus with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Through his professional positions and memberships, university contributions, and research and scholarly contributions, he has been a strong voice for teacher training in curriculum and instruction. He received his B.S. from Pennsylvania State University in mathematics and physical science. He followed up with his Master’s in mathematics education and his doctorate in curriculum planning. His topic should be a very interesting one, Change in Schools. Before coming to UTC as professor and head of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education, he taught at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He also taught mathematics and physics in local schools in New York before joining a college faculty. Some intriguing titles of his written work include “Cycles of School Criticism,” “Curriculum Leaders: Improving Their Influence,” and “High School Graduates of the Stormy 60s: What Happened to Them?” He has been very active with a variety of grants and projects with the State of Tennessee and Hamilton and Knox counties’ school districts. He also has been named Mildred Routt Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. His community activities include being an amateur actor for the Chattanooga Theatre Center. Please join us at The Public House beginning at 11:45. Ordering will begin around noon and we will enjoy our meal prior to Dr. Bartoo’s presentation. Look for the ElderScholars sign and let the host or hostess know your destination for the ElderScholars luncheon. Please RSVP to Ray Millard no later than Friday, April 9th, for your reservation. Public House will need seating plans on Monday in order to prepare for us. His email is rmillard@catt.com and his phone number is 706-937-3748. |
