Community Grandparent's Day Festival to be Held at Greenbriar Cove in Collegedale
Morning Pointe Assisted Living of Collegedale and The Lantern Alzheimer’s Memory Care Center of Excellence at Greenbriar Cove are teaming up to host their third annual Grandparents Day Festival on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. The event will be held on the campus of Morning Pointe of Collegedale at Greenbriar Cove located at
“We are pleased to begin National Assisted Living Week with a special festival to honor our communities’ grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents,” said Shari McQuistan, executive director of Morning Pointe of Collegedale at Greenbriar Cove. “Grandparents Day at Morning Pointe and The Lantern will be followed by a week of themed days full of fun, entertaining and rewarding activities to celebrate the special week.” Ms. McQuistan added, “This generation has worked their whole lives in various meaningful capacities both professionally and personally. It is time for them to enjoy life, relax and let others provide the comforts of home and the security of personalized assistance that is tailored specifically to their independent needs and desires.” Collegedale Mayor John Turner will kick off this year’s festival. Entertainment will include Golden Boys and David James followed by a special gymnastics show performed by Southern Adventist University’s Gym-Masters. An array of booths with games and activities will be offered by local companies such as BrightStar Healthcare, Garden Plaza of Greenbriar Cove, Gentiva Health Services, Inc., Guardian Home Care, Homecare Solutions, ResCare HomeCare and Wiley’s Photography. Massage therapist, Becky Yarborough, will be giving free massages. Guests can participate in special activities such as a duck pond game, dart board game, milk bottle game, a cake walk and take in a display of antique cars. Refreshments will include funnel cakes, snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy and lemonade.
