The Alzheimer's Association and Morning Pointe or Chattanooga are joining forces to bring education and assistance to those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
The community is invited to “Alzheimer’s vs. the Caregiver” on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Morning Pointe of Chattanooga, 7620 Shallowford Road. The program will feature Dr. Janice Ryan, an Occupational Therapist who specializes in the area of managing behaviors through purposeful activity.
“Alzheimer’s is a disease that not only effects memory; it also impacts behavior, feelings, and emotions”, said Amy French, program coordinator for the local Alzheimer’s Association. “This program will teach caregivers ways to cope with these behaviors and personality changes.”
“Behavior changes can be a real challenge for caregivers”, said Dr. Ryan. “Techniques that help keep your loved ones purposefully engaged through common, day to day activities that are meaningful and achievable can make a big difference.”
This event is free and open to the public; however, reservations are required. Call 265-3600 to reserve a spot. For more information about Alzheimer’s disease, visit www.alz.org or contact the Alzheimer's Association local office at 265-3600, or 800 272-3900 toll free.
